This morning I looked at myself in the mirror just wearing my bra and underwear and thought for the first time ever, “I look good today. Maybe I should just go to work like this.” Well, maybe half of that statement was just a thought (thankfully for you). On my commute to/from work I’ve been listening to Mindy Kaling’s audiobook, “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns)? (P.S. Mindy - everyone on the #8 Halsted Bus in Chicago just wants to thank YOU for getting to hear my outrageous laugh and see my beautiful smile as they all head to their next destination.) Anyways. In the audiobook, Mindy touches on dieting and the disorienting image standards of our country and how it affected her as a child and her thoughts on it today. I completely agree with Mindy that the standard is insane. I for one am saying that this standard is easily slipping down the slope and truly hope that the standard will eventually be non-existent. And after listening to her talk about this topic, going to bed, dreaming of puppies in outer space, waking up on time and then getting ready for work this morning, I realized one great thing. I am so thankful for all these inspirational characters, successful writers/actors/directors, these magnificent women that are in the television and film industry today. The women above are a few that quickly come to my mind who I have to thank for this. They didn’t have to be a size 2 to be successful. They did what they needed to do to be successful, not what others wanted them to do. They worked hard, played harder, and coincidentally create funny stories - all very different kind of funny. I truly hope that one day, I too will be successful like all three of these fucking spectacular women. Thank you ladies for your characters, thoughts, creativity, and truth.
